～つつ vs Verb ながら: つつ is the literary ながら, and it has a second use ながら shares only weakly: with a verb of knowing or thinking it becomes concessive (悪いと知りつつ, 'even though I knew'). In ordinary speech about two simultaneous actions, ながら is still the natural one.
