Verb-stem + かける

Explanation

The ～かける grammar point is used to describe a process or action that is in progress, halfway, or not yet completed. It can be attached to verbs to imply that the action is still ongoing or something is in a certain state of partial completion.

Example sentences

• 彼女は食べかけのリンゴを置いて出かけた。

  She left a partially eaten apple and went out.

  Kanojo wa tabe-kake no ringo o oite dekaketa.

• 子供たちはやりかけの宿題を机の上に残した。

  The children left their half-finished homework on the desk.

  Kodomotachi wa yari-kake no shukudai o tsukue no ue ni nokoshita.

• 読みかけの本を夜になると探す。

  I look for the book I started reading once night comes.

  Yomi-kake no hon o yoru ni naru to sagasu.
