Describes something that is decided, arranged, or expected.

When to use

ことになっている: a rule or arrangement set by others (～ことになっている).

Explanation

The ～ことになっている grammar point is used to express that something has been decided or arranged, or is expected as a rule or custom. It can be translated as 'it is decided that...', 'it is arranged that...', or 'it is expected to...' in English. The formation is used with verbs in their dictionary form.

この会社かいしゃでは、20時ときには仕事しごとを終おえることになっている。

In this company, it is decided that work will end at 8 pm.

Kono kaisha de wa, 20-ji ni shigoto o oeru koto ni natte iru.
