Express 'as', 'in the capacity of', or 'taking something as...'.

The everyday "as/in the capacity of", with を explicitly marking the treated-as object.

Explanation

The grammar pattern 「～を～として」 is used with nouns to indicate taking one thing 'as' or 'in the role of' another. It shows how a certain noun is being viewed or utilized.
