Verb-て + まま, い-Adjective + のまま, な-Adjective + なまま, Noun + のまま

Explanation

The ～ままに grammar point is used to express leaving something in its current state or doing something exactly as is. It can also imply doing something naturally or without altering the circumstances. Depending on the part of speech, different particles are used: Verb-て + まま, い-Adjective + のまま, な-Adjective + なまま, Noun + のまま.

Example sentences

• 子供が寝ているままに、静かに部屋を出ました。

  I quietly left the room while the child was still sleeping.

  Kodomo ga nete iru mama ni, shizuka ni heya o demashita.

• 窓が開いたままで、寒くなりました。

  It got cold with the window left open.

  Mado ga aita mama de, samuku narimashita.

• 彼は元気なままで老人ホームに入りました。

  He entered the nursing home while still in good health.

  Kare wa genki na mama de roujin hoomu ni hairimashita.

• 昔の思い出のままに、この町に戻りました。

  I returned to this town with my old memories intact.

  Mukashi no omoide no mama ni, kono machi ni modorimashita.
