Explanation

This pattern is used to express that one has not done (or not even tried to do) some action before proceeding to do something else. It emphasizes doing something 'without even' doing the prior action.

Example sentences

• 調べもしないで、答えを書きました。

  I wrote the answer without even investigating.

  Shirabe mo shinai de, kotae o kakimashita.

• 彼は試験を勉強もしないで、テストに合格した。

  He passed the test without even studying.
