Formation

Verb-casual + ところ, い-Adjective + ところ, な-Adjective + なところ, Noun + のところ

Express a specific point in time or state; 'when', 'just about', or 'in the middle of'.

When to use

"Right at this point/just about to" - flexible, can mark just-before, during, or just-after a moment.

Explanation

The ～ところ grammar point is used to describe a specific point in time or stage of action. Depending on the verb tense, it can mean 'just about to do something', 'in the middle of doing something', or 'just did something'.

Example sentences

出でかけるところです。

I'm just about to go out.

Dekakeru tokoro desu.
映画えいがを見みているところです。

I'm in the middle of watching a movie.
