Formation

Verb-casual + 一方(で), い-Adjective + 一方(で), な-Adjective + な/である一方(で), Noun + である一方(で)

Indicates that while one action or situation is happening, another action or situation is also occurring or is in contrast.

When to use

一方(で): while X, on the other side Y; two sides of a situation.

Explanation

The ～一方 grammar point is used to express that while one action or situation is taking place, another is occurring at the same time or in contrast. The clauses connected by 一方 often show simultaneous actions, opposing characteristics, or parallel developments.

Example sentences

技術ぎじゅつが進化しんかする一方いっぽう、生活せいかつが忙いそがしくなっている。
