Explanation

The ～からです grammar point is used to state the reason or cause of something, often as a short concluding statement. It can be translated as 'because', 'since', or 'due to' in English. The formation can be used with verbs, い-adjectives, な-adjectives, or nouns, but be careful with な-adjectives and nouns: typically, it's [Noun/な-adjective] + だからです.

Example sentences

  • It’s because it’s cold. That’s why I’m wearing a coat.

    Samui kara desu. Kooto wo kiteimasu.

  • It’s because this store is cheap. That’s why I come often.

    Kono mise wa yasui kara desu. Yoku kimasu.

  • It’s because he’s kind. Everyone likes him.

    Kare wa shinsetsu dakara desu. Minna ni suka-rete imasu.

  • It’s because she’s a student. She studies at the library.
